Interview with Dr Rondrick Williamson (@thedrron)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Named as one of the ‘Most Beautiful Doctors in America’ in 2013, Dr. Rondrick Williamson literally built his entire career on hard work and dedication to excellence. From humble beginnings, he has managed to create quite a presence in the world today. Born in Mullins, SC, his mother struggled to make ends meet while raising three boys and at times had to go without, but modest beginnings didn’t get in the way of his goal of having a successful career as a physician. His mother struggled alone to provide for her three boys. He lived in public housing. “We had things we needed,” Williamson said, “but a lot of the ‘wants’ we weren’t able to have. Williamson completed undergraduate studies at Clemson University earning a BS degree in Biological Science. He then traveled to Cleveland, Ohio where he attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine ultimately receiving a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree. After completing OCPM, he was selected to attend the University of Texas Health Sciences Center in San Antonio where he completed his residency training. He is currently board certified in Diabetic Wound Care and Management and is also a fellow of the American Professional Wound Care Association.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

The most interesting and exciting thing that has happened to me was my repeated appearances on The Doctors talk show. It was a blessing to have had the opportunity to appear on an Emmy Award-winning television show for several episodes.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Success requires dedication, perseverance, and faith. Being an entrepreneur requires finding time for self. There has to be a healthy balance between work and play. Each individual has his or her own way of de-stressing or relaxing. This is important.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My Mom is a single parent. She was and is the one person who I am so grateful for. She at times struggled to provide for our family but we always had the necessary things we needed. To this day, she is my biggest cheerleader and advocate. From being on public assistance and living in public housing, we certainly have come a long way. Each step on my ladder of success I dedicate to her.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

As often as I can, I give back to the community. This is done through volunteering in the community and also mentoring and speaking to the youth of today.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Seek patience and passion in equal amounts. Patience alone will not build the temple. Passion alone will destroy its walls. Maya Angelou This quote has followed me throughout my life. Success requires patience. I had to learn the hard way. I realize that anything worth having requires this quality. This was definitely evident as I matriculated through undergraduate and medical school studies.

Interview with Robert Earl Johnson II (@rojo_hancho)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I’ve been an athlete all my life as among other activities love how it brings people of different color and regions together for one purpose to celebrate and enjoy the competition. It has to lead me to travel places I’ll never think I’ll be now I’m a pro player in Japan.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I’ve been to different continents and countries and still love to visit more. I’ve gone from almost being homeless after college to now having two bank accounts in two different countries.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

The tip I would recommend is to never follow the crowd, make your own decisions, and stick with it. Reputation is very important to be ready to protect it with your life if necessary.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I would definitely say both of my parents. I know how having both parents in the household could be a blessing. We were at a low point in life right after me graduating college and me not making it to the NFL. My family stuck together so I labeled my success through my mom and dad two sisters and one brother.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I always do, it’s my duty to uplift the youth and help everyone as much as I can. I treat people how I’ll want to be treated unless disrespect comes into play.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Live like no one else so you can live like no one else. Basically, what I’m doing now playing football for as long as I have most athletes stop after not making to the desired level they’ll want to reach. I have taken it upon myself to take my talents to another country and never looked back.

Interview with Forrest Flowers (@forrest.flowers)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of performance. Do we only perform on stage? Or do we perform our everyday lives, too? Do we ever not perform? There’s so much to figure out. But I never felt ready enough to get myself out there and practice performing in front of a live audience. When a chance appeared for me to perform at a club night, I went for it head first not really knowing what I was doing or getting myself into. Turns out I got myself into the best part of my life so far, the one where I discover the joy and the ecstasy of performing live.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I think people find the way we started our band the most interesting part. Forrest Flowers started very much in a punk manner. I was contacted by a nightclub offering me a slot to perform. And I agreed to it having nothing in mind – that was two weeks prior to the event. My friend Sunny agreed to play guitar for me once. At that point, our ex-drummer Zee has never played drums before but after my persistent begging, she agreed to do it once for the night, too. I couldn’t find anyone for the bass. The plan, for now, was for me to play the bass and sing at the same time which, as my first performance, promised to be tragic. It was now a week until the gig and I had some material down for the songs but still no bass player. And so I went to Tinder and changed my profile in search of not love but a decent bass player. A miracle happened – I matched with our future bassist Tom. I explained the situation to him and somehow our chaotic arrangement sounded fine to him. We rehearsed twice before playing the gig which went surprisingly well apart from us being fully cancelled from the night just a couple hours prior. But that’s for another story.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

I think mental and physical self-care is extremely important. It’s easy to forget about your health when your career is built around regular gigs, partying, drinking, drugs, etc. As fun as it is, you have to have a certain sense of responsibility to know when your body and mind need a break. I feel quite lucky that I feel comfortable in both extremely intense situations and extremely relaxed, too. Say after playing a loud punk gig or DJing at a gabber rave the night before, I can go sit alone by a lake and play the ukulele the afternoon after. For me, it’s all about finding that balance of stimulating yourself enough with work, music, people but also making sure you have your space to recoup and be ready to get back into the mad world again.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I couldn’t have had any of this without my closest friends who also happen to be my bandmates. Our guitarist Sunny is my oldest of friends here in London and has been there for me for years from when I was struggling with dysphoria and working on my transition to now where I have a completely different life and identity. Having such unconditional support provides so much security that it made me realise – I’m not making friends here, I’m making family. It’s amazing really that we can stay so close and also be able to write songs, perform and have fun together drama-free.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Activism and performing are my main outlets. Witnessing inequality outrages me so much. There’s some sort of sensor in my mind that gets triggered whenever I see people being mistreated due to something they have no control over. So I try to fight discrimination by being so public about issues surrounding LGBTQ+ community, BIPOC, Sex Workers, Immigrants. I try to help where I can; recently, I’ve compiled an archive of links to active fundraisers and resources surrounding the issues communities I mentioned above struggle with currently. As a band, we go to protests, support and host fundraiser events, write songs about our own journeys with identity issues, sexuality, mental health, homelessness, addiction, etc. No other feedback makes me feel happier than people contacting me saying that they could relate to a song or a post and it made them feel understood and less alone in their issue. There’s so much that society needs to learn to accept. But really, to me, it’s just about encouraging people to manifest their humanity.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

I can’t think of a specific quote but one thing comes to mind. I often recall this comedy sketch from Limmy’s Show where he shows a dog sticking its head out of a moving car window. And he narrates saying: “A dog doesn’t worry itself about how everything works, how it can go so fast down this motorway in this thing that doesn’t even have legs. It simply sticks it’s head out of the window and enjoys the sensation of the wind in its face and the way it makes its ears flap and how it feels like it’s flying down the street. Why is the dog so chill about everything? Because it doesn’t think about it too much. Be like the dog.”

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

We support local communities by sourcing most of the gemstones directly from the mines. We use recycled gold and the “made to order” approach enables us not to overproduce. We support various charitable organisations.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“Sleep over it” although it can be a challenge sometimes it is important not to go with your first impulse. Everything looks better in the morning. 🙂

Now that I am able to work within the label, I am trying to find new up-coming producers that are talented, and I feel identified with them because that is pretty much how I started.

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I love playing soccer, fitness, and freestyle tricks. I started posting videos of my training and the tricks as I’m learning them, and people would reach out and comment about how inspirational my content was, and how it motivated them to work harder.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I have been featured in ads for a really popular soccer training product. I was invited to film with them before I had any real following, and then they had my video in ads running all over social media. Some of the ads were viewed over a million times!

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

I recommend making sure training and working out remains fun! It doesn’t always have to be serious, and I like to take breaks from game training and stuff by doing freestyle and tricks.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My trainer Eddie Johnson, and my parents. I followed Eddie on social media for a long time. He inspired me to work hard, and I was doing the drills he was posting. At some point, he reached out and invited me to train with him! My parents booked a flight, and I had the opportunity to meet and train with Eddie. He helped me a lot, and he continues to do so to this day. My parents are very supportive, and they’ve done a lot to make sure I have good opportunities, and they push me to work hard, be humble, and be grateful for everything I have!
