Interview with Ryan Hanover (@decimatedubs)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I’ve been a producer for 10 years now making dubstep, I started when I was 16 years old as a sophomore in high school! In my friends were the only kids going to raves and everyone used to make fun of us for it and now everyone is going.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

The most interesting story has to be when I went to Hawaii and ended up going to a rave I didn’t want to go to. I met a performer in the crowd not knowing he was a performer then started talking about what I do and he knew who I was and asked if I wanted to come backstage. So I did and hung out with him (hi I’m a ghost) and Snails, two huge producers. I’ve become best friends with Hi I’m Ghost after that.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Be open to opportunity and don’t be afraid to say yes. Also, be patient!

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I owe a lot of where I am to the producer Blankface. He really put me on the map and helped me get huge releases on bigger labels. Without him, I definitely wouldn’t have been able to travel the world and many other things.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I only use my success to bring goodness to the world. Through my music people find happiness and I’m thankful for that.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Literally “be patient” has gotta be the one quote I live by. I used to want things to happen right then and then but I learned if you put effort into what your doing then things will come with time. Don’t rush them. Sometimes they might surprise you when they happen. Just roll with the punches.
