Interview with Ronan Kenneth Norden Meikle (@rocket_launches_news_events)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

It all started off as a hobby, I got interested in the modern space era and all the science, development, and exploration around space and space travel. I then started a Facebook page to try and expand my knowledge out to others, as it’s not a common interest anymore.

I started Rocket Launches News And Events in July last yes, but over that time my page has grown and grown. I now reach about 700,000 people each month what’s crazy. So if now registered as a company and business so I can start selling merch.

Honestly, I never thought this would turn into a career, it was just a small hobby that took off.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I was just doing my normal business posting and writing articles about what’s going on around the world. Then a company from the United States contacted me asking to use some of my material!

This was a huge surprise for me as I was quite small at the time. So this company was about launching ashes into space and they wanted to borrow my video epic from one of SpaceX’s falcon heavy launches. So we made a deal and I let them use it. Just that in its self was amazing and blew me away, as I was just a small organization from New Zealand and then a big company from the US contacted me, that’s when I realized I was getting big and noticed.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Stay fresh. Make sure you are constantly checking online news, official news so that when anything comes available you can write up and post straight away. I also think it’s important to try to get a wide range of audiences. For example, I do stuff of space and exploration, etc, that’s a multinational topic so I have an audience from India to China, Russia, USA, Japan that way I’m keeping all my posts abroad, so there is always someone interested.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

One of my classmates helped me when I first started Rocket Launches News And Events.

He would be my editor and post whenever I’m not around, just so that people would still be engaged. What really boosted my page so I’m really grateful that I could have a friend who was willing at no cost just to help out and boost the organization.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I think so, I’m promoting space exploration as well as rocket reusability what’s a big thing these days, making sure we aren’t creating waste. So where possible I try to let people know that aerospace companies are reducing their waste and carbon footprint what in think brings good to people. As there is a lot of people who think rockets are killing the environment, yes the old rockets from the 1700s to the 1900s were but now it’s all hydrogen-powered for the most part. So yes I do think I’m bringing good.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
