Interview with Monika Wood (@_enjoying_the_journey_)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I’ve always been an entrepreneur and started my first business at 7. I majored in business administration doing undergrad and worked my way up at a Fortune 500 company from entry-level to Sr. Executive in just 4 years. I went on to get my MBA and started working for another Fortune 500 company but was laid off along with about 1500 others when the company went private. I vowed never to feel disposable again and launched my Management Consulting firm, MW Consulting, Inc., and started my Ecommerce company Accessory Hut, LLC.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Taking on a Forbes 30 under 30 recipient as a client.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Delegate, delegate, delegate.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My maternal grandmother. My mother was raised in rural Louisiana in the 50s during segregation and had to pick cotton with her 7 siblings. My grandmother always told them “Your only way out of these cotton fields is to get an education”. My mother got straight as and a full scholarship to college. She and my dad passed down the importance of education because of my maternal grandmother which is why I am where I am today.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I started a non-profit in honor of my late maternal grandmother that gives college scholarships to underserved communities.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“Life is a journey. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be enjoyed”.

I’m an avid world traveler and I hit a rough patch in life in July 2017 and decided to imprompt sell everything to backpack for an unknown amount of time to get clarity about my life. I wound up traveling through 15 countries/3 continents for 7 months.
