Interview with Maria Jimena Garcia (

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I loved fashion since I was a very little girl, and on a trip to NYC with my mother, I got scouted while we were having lunch. I moved to NYC later that same year.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I always loved the little mermaid and I scuba dive since I am 11 years old. On a diving trip to Cozumel, I got the opportunity to mix fashion and diving for the first time in an underwater photoshoot. I felt like the little mermaid myself. I was wearing clothing, had weights on me to keep me down, had waterproof makeup and a diver gave me air and placed me in the right spot every about 1 minute, while a photographer and diver took the photos. I loved the experience, so I continued doing these types of shoots too.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Be nice, be easy to work with, always be doing something in the industry, and always try to better yourself and learn new things.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My mum. She always supported me and was there for me. Every time I moved to a different city in the world she would come and help me, she would visit me lots. She always gave me the best advice, was there for me, and understood me.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I became an image consultant to help people become the best version of themselves and feel confident.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“Es mejor pedir perdón que pedir permiso”. This is a phrase in Spanish that means “Is better to ask for forgiveness than for permission”. I love this quote because I believe you have to be impulsive, just go for it and don’t be afraid.

How can our readers follow you on social media?

The only social media platform I use is Instagram “”.
