I’ve always been someone that likes to blaze my path. In my earlier life, I’ve dabbled in my things, but one thing is for sure is that I’ve always known I wanted to run my own business.

In my earlier days (2009), I started an online publication website called Social Media NZ – a website aimed to help businesses in New Zealand & Australia navigate the social media space. It was then the idea of building a brand stuck with me, and that has become my path ever since. Sold Social Media NZ back in 2014 and went on a journey around Asia working as a consultant for many advertising agencies.

Fast forward today, after a long stint away, learning the ropes, I am back in NZ and started up a Creative agency with a long time friend. This business is Krager Consultancy, and we’ve been going strong for two years now.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Like any business, the very first year was a slog. We weren’t even sure we were also going to make any money. A little bit of determination and hustle, we have a strong base of clients, and the interesting part to this story is, we never took any loan out. So we grew our business without having gone into debt.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

You know what, unfortunately, ‘burn out’ will happen as part of building a business. Anyone who tries to paint a rosy picture that starting a business you won’t experience exhaustion or burn out is lying to you. An advice I can give now and I wish I had learned earlier in my business path is to take the time in the morning and plan out your day. The simple habit of playing allows you to stick your schedule and not overwork yourself to the ground.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

There is no one person that I can give all my credit to unfortunately but what I can say is, everyone that has ever come into my life I’ve taken lessons from it and applied it to my life and business. So thank you to everyone who’s ever challenged me and pushed me.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Pay it forward with the knowledge I’ve gained along the way. It is the ability to pass on the knowledge I’ve gained to the next generation. I for one wished I had someone who can guide me in the earlier stages of my career.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“What you lack in talent can be made up with desire, hustle, and giving 110% all the time.” – Don Zimmer.
