Interview with Erich Meitzner (@erichmeitz)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I choose lighting design after seeing a Concert in 2004. I just fell in love with the entire feeling of a live show.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Working with the Scotty Sire of the Vlog Squad. I have been fortunate to work with some large artists, but seeing the “pandemonium” around Scott was something truly different.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Just take it slow, every day is just a day, you will still wake up tomorrow.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

When I first started to get interested in lighting, there was a summer stock theatre in my area, the master electrician, Maddie Nevins, really taught me more than I give her credit for. More recently, having transitioned into a sales role, John Dunn, the National Sales Manager for Elation, has really taken the time to show me the ropes.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I am very fortunate to get light a few charity events throughout the year.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Yes, a quote from Bob Iger, the former CEO of Disney. “ The riskiest thing we can do is just maintain the status quo”.
