Interview with Ellen Flower-Emblen (@elletwerk)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I started in Hip Hop 10 years ago, trained in Sydney and Seoul. Then I discovered twerking which was popular in the US and Europe. I became one of the first and only Australians to master the technique and taught twerk class in Sydney for 2 years and even ran an international twerk class in Seoul at Oriental Fem Dance. I have Benn Twerking for 5 years.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Becoming an influencer has changed my whole life, I am now ‘Australia’s Twerk Girl’, the first professional Australian Twerk Dancer. Now I promote artists through my dance and have a large US-based audience.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Don’t be afraid to burn out. The limit does not exist. Put in the work, even if you are unsure yet what your destination is, keep chipping away until you find your path. We all have to work to live, so don’t quit your day job until you know exactly where you are going. When you have your clear vision of where you want to be, nothing can stop you, except you, don’t stand in your way. Work hard.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

Meeting my manager was the game-changer. I didn’t know much about how to promote and market myself, I only knew I was passionate about dancing. To succeed, we need that support.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I’m just getting started! I hope my content brightens your day and inspires you.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“Find your vision” and follow it – Arnold Schwarzenegger. This was the key for me, I knew it was important to keep working hard but when you don’t know where you are working towards it is hard. Once you know exactly what you want to do, everything becomes ‘easy’. My friends say, “make sure you take a break”, I always say to them “My work is not work, it’s my dream, do you need a break from dreams?”

How can our readers follow you on social media?
