Interview with Dusty Mulhearn (@propertycousins)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Property Cousins was founded by two cousins whose family has been in the real estate business for over 50 years. Together we have created a real estate team in southern California where we help buyers and sellers sell and move into their dream homes with the unique marketing techniques that we created from our background of making videos since the young age of 10. Our love and passion for sales and making videos as kids only lead us to this path, the path of selling the most desired thing in the world, a home.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Being in the real estate business for over 8 years has given us many unique opportunities, from selling multi-million dollar beach homes to helping first-time buyers buy their first home. We have seen and experienced some interesting moments. We have shown some unnamed celebrities some homes, a road in our client’s supercars while looking at homes, been interviewed by multiple real estate podcasts.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

This business is so easy to get burned out and want to give up. But when you love what you do and are always looking to expand and grow your business, you never run out of fun creative ways to get your name out there. That in its self should keep you wanting to move forward, the excitement of seeing your name out there as much as possible.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

There have been many people who have helped me get to where I am today. The original family member in real estate Bruce Mulhearn, my cousin the man who was a legend in the real estate world, with over 22 offices before he passed away, he laid down a foundation of greatness, inspiring not only me but thousands of other realtors to be something special in the business. Of course my family, they have always been there supporting me and allowing me to follow my dreams, motivating me to keep moving forward when times are tough. Always being there when I need them. But most recently my real estate coach and mentor Chris Robertson with the Tom Ferry Group, has helped me get organized, get my mind in the right place, and really push me to be something great. I thank you to everyone who has always been there.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Most recently Covid-19 hit us, affecting everything. So what we here at The Property Cousins have done is set up a booth at Property Cousins HQ in Cerritos California, where we give back to the community, in what we call Project Give Back. Where we are giving away masks and gloves to those in need. We have been doing this every weekend for over 2 months in hopes to help flatten the curve.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

One of my favorite quotes by Grant Cardone “No one’s going to come to your house and make your dreams come true. Everything in life is a sale and everything you want is a commission. Your greatness is limited only by the investments you make in yourself. Focus on creating and producing a future, not what happened yesterday.” This quote is so true, and a very good way to live by. It inspired me to get off the couch, and get out there, go get what I really want in life. Learn how to sell and be their person I was meant to be. Someone great, someone who can sell anything, someone who can go out there and get exactly what they want, and hopefully be able to help more people with everything I learn.
