Interview with Andrea Marie Navarro (@andreamarienavarro)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

Andrea is an experienced editor with years of experience in beauty and women’s lifestyle. Her work is featured in: Women’s Wear Daily, The Zoe Report, Teen Vogue, Brides, Pop Sugar, Mane Addicts, The Klog, Hello Giggles, The Sunday Edit, Rose Inc, LOCALE, Create & Cultivate and more. Since kickstarting her editorial career, Andrea has become one of the most influential beauty journalists of the present time and an influencer in her own right. She has worked with brands including CVS Pharmacy, Harmless Coconut Water, Smith & Cult, Lyft, and more.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

I’ve had the pleasure of interviewing a variety of public figures including Nicole Kidman, Kim Kardashian West, Shay Mitchell, and more.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Project management is essential, especially as a journalist. There are so many trending topics and things going on in the world, that prioritizing some tasks over others is key. It’s also okay to not say “yes” to every project that comes your way. Stick to the ones you’re the most passionate about.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My manager at Teen Vogue was the biggest mentor I’ve had to this day. She was such a powerful voice in the beauty space and encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone as a writer. I once had the pleasure of attending a press trip to Anguilla on her behalf with a major beauty brand, and having those executives and professionals in my network was the most rewarding experience.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Absolutely. I wanted to use my voice as a woman of color to bring more diversity and inclusion into space. While some publications played it safe, I always made sure to shake things up with pitching content that normally wouldn’t have been published. If I made even one person feel represented through my work, then I did my job!

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

I genuinely think that everything happens for a reason, so I’d say my motto is “que sera, sera.” Meaning “what will be, will”. There were many times that I felt defeated and hopeless, but I made it through and always made the best out of my opportunities.
