Interview with Alexandra Hainsworth (@alexandra.hainsworth)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

As a child you couldn’t shut me up – I would always sing my heart out with everything I could muster. It’s no surprise really, that after completing my postgraduate qualifications in psychology, I returned to my passion for music. What started out as sporadic live gigs turned into writing my own songs and collaborating with producers from all around the world. Nothing makes me happier than music.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

During a particularly difficult period in my life, someone once told me that “I couldn’t fill a thimble with my music knowledge”. Though it wasn’t true, it set me on a dedicated path of self-development. Since then I have tirelessly sharpened my craft and extended my talent. To date, I have an extensive discography and international recognition for my original works. Never let the haters bring you down – let their criticisms sharpen your skillset.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Develop achievable goals with realistic deadlines. If you have a milestone in mind, remember that all great accomplishments require patience and persistence. Failures often make you stronger and more resilient in the face of new challenges. Lastly, find balance in your daily routine and always remind yourself of small successes.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My dad once told me in jest that “if you don’t do something with that voice, I’ll disown you”. What was a silly joke at the time has turned into singularly one of the most powerful things he’s ever said to me. Certain chapters of your life can cloud your judgment about who you think you really are and what you see yourself doing. I think my dad always knew I was born to do music.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I’m a strong believer in a positive mindset. My public posts are always motivational and uplifting and my songs come from a special place in my heart. Being able to connect with all walks of life from every corner of the globe is truly an incredible thing, and if you can bring a little more light into this world then you can do anything.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“Smiling is the best way to face every problem, to crush every fear, and to hide every pain.” – Will Smith. There are many quotes by Will Smith that I love, but this particular one resonates with me the most. Unfortunately, certain people in my life have tried to sabotage my happiness and halt my success. Time and time again my best defence has been to smile, carry on, and improve myself even further. It takes courage not to succumb to life’s dark moments, but if you can break through that barrier and find a reason to smile then you’ve won half the battle already.
