Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
Since early childhood, I have been inspired by the likes of Muhammad Ali, Mike Tyson, Roy Jones Jr. Boxing is a very spectacular sport and apart from that, the emotions which you get whilst in the ring – you cannot get anywhere else. When I enter the ring – I really feel alive. I love everything about this sport – the training process, competition, respect inside & outside the ring. Boxing is truly a gentlemen’s sport. We do not hit one another whilst on the ground, we shake hands & we respect each other. This is why I have chosen to become a professional boxer, for the love of this sport, I truly love boxing & everything to do with it!
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?
The day before my professional boxing debut, we sat at the hotel in Riga with my manager & I have spotted a famous Russian rapper at the table next to us. We’ve approached them to take a picture and started chatting. I’ve asked them what they were doing here and they said that they came to a concert. I’ve replied oh, how could we miss it? But they said that the concert is in 2 hours and invited us to join them on their performance. My fight was tomorrow, but we couldn’t resist and went. Actually, I have never told this story to anyone before. We had a really great time! The concert was amazing and on the next day, I won the fight with the second-round TKO.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
Enjoy what you are doing, fall in love with the process & motivate yourself. When you perceive your craft as a burden – it will always be hard for you. On the other hand, when you truly love what you are doing you enjoy yourself to the max. I know it is hard at the time, but I always manage to enjoy myself on the training sessions, as it is my dream job. Everything depends on your perception, all troubles are in your head! If you can overcome them, there is nothing that can stop you! Your biggest enemy is in the mirror, if you can beat him, there will be no one you can’t!
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
I’m very grateful to my promoter & the CEO of GRAND BOXING PROMOTION – Andrey Gromov. He was the one who encouraged me to turn pro. I’m really grateful for that because at the moment I was not sure whether it was the right decision, whether it will work out or not, but he was there for me throughout the process & today I genuinely believe that it was the best decision of my life! I’m doing my dream job, I became a professional boxer. We have a great team & a bright future ahead of us!
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
In this world of parties, drugs, alcohol I’m promoting a healthy lifestyle and with my example trying to show the young generation that it is not cool doing all those things. It is not cool to smoke, drink, use drugs, and party all the time, it is cool to be healthy, do sports, and love your family.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
“He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life” – this quote by the great champion Muhammad Ali is one of my favorite & is very relevant for me! I think it makes perfect sense – if you do not take risks you cannot succeed. For me it is better to do something and regret the failure; rather than not even trying to do it. Nearly in every decision taken is an element of risk & I’m ready and willing to take it. This is exactly how I started boxing professionally, I took the risk and could not be happier. If you want to succeed in life – you have to take risks, otherwise, you will end up with nothing.
