Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

As foodies in general, and fans of tuna fish in particular, my husband and I always like exploring the markets for better brands and richer flavors. Our search brought us to Vietnam, where we found a cannery that specialized in yellowfin tuna. Once we tasted, we fell in love with the taste and texture of this product. We invested in experimenting with different combinations, oils, and spices until we came with 4 unique flavors to start with, and we launched FinerFin.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

During the peak of Covid-19, a young girl sent us an email. She told us that her sister has FinerFin for lunch every day and loves the product. However, being that her sister is an ER nurse, she has been doing crazy shifts and hasn’t had the time or energy to self-care and stock up on FinerFin. She asked if there was anything we could do for her sister in the frontlines. Of course, we were thrilled to help and we sent her a big package with all 4 flavors and added a note expressing our gratitude to her and her colleagues during such times. The following week, we received such heartfelt and emotional letters from the girl as well as her father, telling us how excited they were to feel the love from complete strangers who appreciated the hard work and devotion of medical crews in hospitals. Personally, it made it all so worthwhile!

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

The most important tip, in my opinion, is to develop the ability to deal with negativity without losing focus on your work. In our business, we sometimes face negative comments, unhappy customers, bad reviews, etc. It is easy to dwell on them and fall into the trap. However, we always need to remember that if we truly believe in what we sell, then we need to take the time to reply kindly, to talk and explain, but never to let it take over.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I am very grateful to so many people along the way who gave us good advice, a kind word, encouragement. Many of those people don’t even know how much they helped.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

During Covid-19 we have donated truckloads of products to families in need. We are taking every donation request very seriously and are doing our best to always respond and assist.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

My life lesson quote is by Brene Brown who says:” What other people think of you is none of your business”. She says: You either let go of what people think, or you let go of what you feel, think, and of who you are.

I don’t think I could identify more with this idea.

In my personal life, as well as in the business world, you need to follow your beliefs and not what other people might think of them. Living up to other people’s standards is just not an option.
