Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I have my college degree in graphic design and was working a boring job as the designer for a promotional company. I hated this job. I had been in the mechanical keyboard community as a consumer for a few years and decided to open up a shop so that I could design things I enjoyed instead of the mindless duties I did at my day job. I did this business (Dixie Mech) for 2 years before I quit my job and decided to go full time. I have been full time for one year, my wife now works with me, and business is growing rapidly! I am very thankful to be able to work for myself and with my wife every day doing something I am truly passionate about.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?
I had the privilege to be a part of a Linus Tech Tips video. Their YouTube channel has over 11 million subscribers and the video our keyboard was featured in has over 2 million views!
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
I would say to not spend too much time reading what people are saying about you. The hatred on the internet is fierce and will really bring you down.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
I would say that my great friend Janglad. He asked me to run his first Keyset project in 2017 before I had ever run a keyset before. I had no experience and he asked me if I wanted to do it. That project is what put both of us on the map and how we have gotten to where we are today. It has all lead to this month where we are running our 6th project together and this month has been our most successful month in the history of our business.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
We have donated to many charities and donated many products to many charity auctions. One of our keyboards was auctioned off for $2750 to go towards COVID response.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
I don’t think I really have a life lesson but I have just always trusted God in every situation and worked my hardest to succeed in each situation.
