Interview with Austin David Sorrells (@mobyaustin)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I have always dreamed of being a pilot from a young age. Once I turned 17, I was ready to become a private pilot and begin my journey to becoming an airline pilot. Throughout the tough roads of being a pilot, it had always been a dream of mine to inspire people the way I had been inspired to get involved in aviation. This is why I started social media, I have grown my TikTok page with over 100,000 followers in the pursuit of inspiring people to chase their dreams and teach them about aviation.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Since I started attempting to influence younger generations as well as older ones, I have made many awesome friends. One of the most interesting is that I have flown in some unique warbirds to create content about different paths as a pilot.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

My biggest thing to always remember in the back of my head is “When time’s get tough, remember the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.” This quote really gives you the motivation to keep pushing and never give up until you reach your end goal. Especially now, times are rough with coronavirus many people are getting down on the future of the industry. However, you have to stay optimistic and hope for a better future.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

One person who has helped me along the way is one of my best friends. He also is a pilot, however, he has progressed through training much quicker than I. With that, he’s always lent out a hand to help when things are tough or not clicking with me. Also when I began my journey on TikTok to attempt to make a difference in at least one person, he was a huge help in pushing me towards my goals.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I have reached out to people to tell them how to get involved in aviation. Also, I have given away a discovery flight to a follower pursuing a career in aviation.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

As mentioned above.
