Interview with Ketlhotse Mametja (@la2wentyfour)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

What brought me to this specific career path was my love for music, I started to have a love and passion for music in 2015 when I heard other artists creating sounds that brought out the emotion in me either happy or sad. I remember I heard of an artist called ma$e on YouTube he had a comeback music video and I heard it, at that moment I knew I wanted to be a rapper, I wanted to also do the same, I wanted to make my own sounds to also let others feel an emotion that I wanted to express or use music to tell a story to someone,I love how music can touch someone, melodies as well can also touch a heart and that is why I love making music so much it’s so interesting and entertaining at the same time and it’s always been my way of expressing myself both to myself and others around the world.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

The most interesting story that has happened to me so far was I released a couple of emotional driven songs because I wanted to write about a heartbreak, come to find out a few weeks later that song actually reached my community In less than 2 weeks and touched friends and family. I was really taken back when people said the songs helped with their sadness and depression and that my music was like a medicine for them, a relief or an escape from their pain. This was crazy to me because this was when I was just starting to release music, my mom also heard the song which was my first official released studio song and she wept for an hour that’s what really told me that music has real power to it.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Build a solid fan base over time with consistency, reach new people every single day and create a good work ethic, always stay on top of your game and don’t give up.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My first ever manager and best friend JT without him I wouldn’t have been able to afford my first ever studio sessions, we were dead broke back then and money was tight but he went to get a 9-5 job working as a grocery bagger, he would work for weeks on end and he Finnaly saved enough money to buy me some nice clothes for my rapper image so that I was more marketable as well as my first ever studio sessions! I was 16 at the time and of coarse I was in school my mom expected me to stay home and study but while she was out at work JT and I would sneak out to go to the studio, we stayed in the studio for hours crafting a song and we got the final product and it wasn’t all that, the song was mastered poorly and it caused me to become discouraged about myself, I began to doubt myself and I almost quit music right then and there but JT spoke encouragement into me and told me that it was just my first song and that the song was just mastered poorly and that it had nothing to do with my lyrical content or talent. I got back on my feet again and waited another month for JT to get enough money to book another studio session, we booked a higher grade studio with better equipment and engineers and I made a whole new song this time, I was scared and excited at the same time, I recorded the song and posted a snippet online that was the best day ever! People started to catch on and told me to release that song as soon as possible and I did, it ended up going around and then I was able to catch attention of some serious investors and ever since then things have been breezy I’ve been blessed to make a full studio album an EP and many numerous singles with more coming soon! Without the help of JT who knows where I’d be, to this day him and I are still bestfriends and it’s amazing we always look back on our past and say wow look how far we have come.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I’ve made sure to tell people the story to build encouragement, I’ve given away money to people who tune in and I’m still going to give away more, I repost new artists on my page to help with exposure and right now I have my own 2 artists that are under me, I’m helping them both get their careers started while handing down knowledge at the same time.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“Are you sure you know your friend like you “know” you know them? ” I say this because along the way there were people who claimed they were all good for me and had the best intentions for me but when they had the chance to try and take me down or destroy me they tried to for their own personal gain. You may think you know a person but you don’t really know them until they reveal their true colors.
