Interview with Darryl Edwards (@fitnessexplorer)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

After almost two decades of working as a technologist in investment banking, Darryl transformed his health after adopting a back-to-basics approach to well-being. As a health and movement coach, Darryl now advises people on maintaining a healthy lifestyle—amidst the epidemic of obesity and other chronic lifestyle diseases.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Doing a TEDx Talk called “Why Working Out Isn’t Working Out” and author of the best-selling book Animal Moves.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Focus on joy, diversity, integrity, and following your true passion. Will certainly help you to thrive.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

Dr. Rangan Chatterjee reached out to me to appear on his TV show “Doctor In The House” which appeared on BBC1 in the UK. This brought my work to a broader audience in support of using lifestyle for better health.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

By speaking to the vulnerable and those who are not typically catered for by the health and wellness industry. I’ve produced products that are inclusive, diverse, and not elitist or exclusive. For all ages, skills, backgrounds, and abilities.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

“That play is not the activity, not the attitude.” This is a quote of mine that helps me day today day both physically and mentally. It is also useful for my clients. I aim to maintain a playful state to help people enjoy their health journeys rather than punishing themselves.
