Interview with DataLine (@datalinetech)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

To be honest, I’m among the graduates who choose their profession based on their college discipline. I graduated as a Software Engineer and my career journey also begin in the same professional path. A career in Software Industry looks to be dynamic & could be outstanding with analytical & problem-solving skills. On the other hand, I was good at grasping and manipulating my team dynamics, which led to a transition in my role from Engineer to Manager. I judge my success as an Effective Manager based on my ability to progress towards the day to day goals. With the role of technology bringing a huge change in marketing in recent years, I augmented my career in Digital Technology, growing demand in the Marketing Industry. Developing a website or app for a business will be on proposition but engaging them with customers is more important. Digital Marketing & Social Media Marketing will always be a happening platform for Software Engineers who look for new challenges and creative solutions to overcome the marketing needs for websites and apps.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

There are more interesting stories that happened and I will share something that strikes me the most. Our DataLine office space was a miniature one when we started off in 2004. Our biggest repentance will be our office space and our clients also found little edgy over the infrastructure. My Team Members also found the space more confining. During a New Year Office meeting, I demand them for a twenty percent increase in Sales  Revenue within Two Years. This would probably be a big demand in a short span. Surprisingly My team accepted the challenge and put their pace overwork. They showed a thirty percent increase in sales revenue within a year, ten percent more than my demand. Our Next New Year Office meeting happened in a new office, which comes to be a huge surprise for my Team. We moved to a remarkable office space infrastructure with glass outer walls located near to Katara Beach, a prominent nature view from our office. This special gift for my team’s hard work would be a memorable moment forever for me and my team.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

As the world is advancing in Digital Technology, Mobiles & the Internet becomes part and parcel of everyone’s life. These technologies pave the demand for Digital & Technology Professionals in the Industry. As Industry advances, it requires unique skillsets for IT Tech Professionals to preserve in it.

Flexible to Change & Adapt to new technology will be the prior most quality for Tech Professionals in this Industry.

  Thirst for more knowledge

Curiosity in exploring and experimenting with new strategies

  Driving Team Effort

  Bright Outlook

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

Definitely, there are a bunch of motivators who made this journey more successful. But one who played a big role in the development of my personal and business skills would be my brother Mr. Anas Sameer Al-Merstani. I would be a proud man to say “My Brother will be my Super Hero Forever”. It was a crucial time of my career where I was in a complicated state to choose my next Level from “Engineer” to “IT Manager”. It was a huge decision and a responsible one. I was scared of this transformation. Moreover, I’m in a confused state for some months. It took an hour’s conversation with my brother to change my decision. He shared his experience on work management and backed me up in facing this big challenge. This new role was more thrilling and assisted me in shaping my personal & technical skills. Again in 2004, My brother was one who played a vital role in building the foundation of DataLine. He mentored me in Development, Client Relationship, Work Management, and Team Management. His part in Success of DataLine, being a rated Digital Industry in Qatar is enormous. Brothers are what friends can never be!

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

We were sponsors of Event organized by “Qatar Foundation for Social Work”, a  Social Work Organization based on Qatar to empower the Elderly People of Qatar. The event focused on empowering the elderly people of both sexes in Qatar to engage them in services that enhance their principle of social responsibilities. This event was being conducted every year and there was a gradual increase in the number of elders who show their interest in participating in the events.

We were Media Sponsor of Tedx Qatar, which took place at Qatar University 2018. The theme for TEDx is “To Leave a Legacy” designed for empowering Qatar University students, faculty & Local Society. Event Focused on the vision of inspiring curiosity, igniting new ideas, and empowering young leaders by inspiring individuals from Qatar Society.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

I would pick up the lines of Leo Buscaglia – “Change is the end result of all True Learning”. My company DataLine would be a relevant example of this Quote. At the start, we were a team of three members delivering a single software service. As of now 2020, we are proud to have a team of 50+ members delivering programming, design, branding, marketing services to more 150+ clients in Qatar. Credits for these huge transformation goes to my entire team members who played a big role in it.
