Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I became a celebrity fashion stylist after a run in the music industry as a songwriter. I have published songs with Faith Evans and E – 40 and when I was in the studio record executives constantly asked me to style their artists. I said no for three years then I realized I was blocking my blessing. As a celebrity stylist I’ve had the privilege to work with some of the greatest in the industry; David LaChapelle, Ellen Von Unwerth, Marc Baptiste, Halsey, Faith Evans, Kanye West, etc.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?
The most interesting thing that’s happened to me as a celebrity stylist is being chosen by Beyonce’s mom, Tina Knowles- Lawson as a featured stylist for her Wearable Art Gala. The attendees of the gala can choose me to create their costumes and style them based on the theme. The theme for my first year as a featured stylist was The Lion King.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
The best tip I have for up and coming celebrity stylists is to follow your gut, not trends. Fashion trends come and go and if you’re not able to create something unique you’ll burn out quickly.
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
It takes a village, especially in the fashion industry. My tribe of friends really helped me navigate my way through. It’s important to align yourself with like-minded people who can uplift and encourage you to keep going on the days you want to give up.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
My success in the fashion industry is my platform to mentor up and coming celebrity stylists. This is a hard business so I want to lend as much support as I can and pass the baton. My book, Celebrity Style Academy was written to help guide the future generation of celebrity fashion stylists on their journey. I’ll also launch CSA online courses to share my knowledge.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
My “Life Lesson Quote” never takes no for an answer. I know people say this all the time but you have to live by these words. I remember being turned down for a gig and was told I wasn’t talented enough. I went back six months later and was turned away again. I worked on my craft some more and went back a few months later and got the job. If I had given up the first, or second time I wouldn’t be here today. Never take no for an answer because the only ones who don’t make it are the ones who give up.
