Interview with Dave Hernandez (@qsjradioceo)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

As an artist, I wanted to have a place, where I can start, go back to, and perfect my craft. There were hardly any avenues so I decided to do a Radio Show for Unsigned Artist.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

One of the most interesting stories is I have met so many recording Artists. I would go on a Tri-State tour, meet so many people. I would get invited places, or just show up to people’s gig to show support. One time a friend of mine, Mike 40, invited me to a video shoot, the video was to feature Fred The Godson. I then grew a special relationship with members of the TBM (Talk about Money) team, that’s when I knew I was doing this right.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Do what you do as it was the first time, find what makes it work, and stick with it. Ignore the numbers. Always step away from it, then come back when you miss it.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

I would always love to thank Mike 40, we started a podcast together, we just kept things humble. It was just his invited that were amazing, the ideas, and his family. One time he put my name out there that we were the best online radio show in NYC, I couldn’t believe that they invited me to a local BBQ, where many local legends and celebrities would attend. One of my fans also got invited, she was 7 at the time and would be so nervous to meet me. I felt so proud of myself and who I was around.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

Many times I would go volunteer all over the east coast, mainly in Virginia and NYC. Giving back and covering those giving backstories have become second nature. So yes I do believe when you reach a certain point, you have to be able to give back.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

‘You’re only as strong as your weakest link’. Though a team lesson, at home I have a team, 8 children including 3 stepchildren. You have to make sure home is ok to be at, and away from. If one doesn’t understand, then it’s not right. The team needs to be on the same page, even if it’s looked at as a different story. Family, that’s what the link is.
