Interview with Eric Jason Cerda Jr. (@bubstepbbx)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I have been beatboxing for about 9 years and making funny videos along with music for about 5, so I knew I wanted to show people how I can put those together in my own way.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

The most interesting thing that has happened to me was getting 1 million followers on TikTok in 1 month. I am so grateful and so amazed that this could be possible for me. I will always be thankful for how supportive my fans are.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Be consistent, be creative, be genuine, and always be proud of what you create. If someone comes up and shows you a video, don’t feel like it’s cringe, react how you want your audience to react.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My mom has always been there from the start. She would always share my videos, tell everyone about me, and hype me up in any way possible. I remember this specific time, I had my first viral video on her Facebook. We were at our local grocery store because our favorite ice cream had finally come back after the recall due to it having listeria in it. It was our favorite ice cream, so she told me I should make a beatbox about it and take a bite when I dropped the beat. We did it and I remember being so happy because I got 1,000 shares and over 15K views. I’m so grateful to have a mom like her. She will forever be my #1 Fan.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I’ve always been a pretty positive guy, so I naturally bring positivity into making my videos or posting pictures. I’ve never once bashed on a hater or said anything means, I’ve simply just responded in a way that would help the person understand that what they are saying is hurtful, or I just ignore it to help spread more positive and powerful messages.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

When I was younger, I was bullied a lot for having big ears and having a weird personality. I used to be scared to go to school because they would either beat me up or call me names. I had kept it to myself for a while, but my mom found out and got everyone in trouble. I just wish that I could go back in time and tell myself not to be scared to tell anyone about what was happening because it was truly heartbreaking to see how my mom didn’t think I trusted her with that information.

How can our readers follow you on social media?
