Quentin James, known by his stage name “Sargeant Q” or “SGT Q” is an American music artist hailing from Portsmouth, Virginia. He was born on the 1st of January, 1987 to an Indian mother and a Creole father. James was raised in Providence, Rhode Island from 1988 to 2000 and later moved to Largo, Maryland in 2000. He has been passionate about creating music since his youth, and in 2003, at just 16 years of age, he joined a GoGo band named “Black Passion” in Largo, Maryland. While performing a mix of funk, hip-hop and soul music, primarily onstage with a live audience, James realized that music was his calling in life, and decided that he wanted to become a musician and perform all over the world.
The year 2008 was a turning point for him, as James was found and signed by a New York music label called “Captain Hustlers” which had offices all across the US, with one being in Washington, D.C. From 2009, he began performing at an open mic and special venues with popular music artists “Fat Trel” and “Logic”. He performed at multiple venues across DC, Maryland, and Virginia, which helped him land all the opportunities he has achieved to date. James is the very definition of self-made, as he worked really hard with great commitment to achieve the famous singer status he has today. So far, James has had a wonderful journey performing in multiple states, including New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, DC, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
In 2016 he released his first mixtape, titled “Black Friday”, which was produced by SODMG artist “Carson Key”, which was a huge success. SODMG is a very famous record label found by world-famous American rapper Soulja Boy, so it comes as no surprise that the mixtape became popular. A year later his second mixtape “Black Friday pt2” dropped, which he produced himself! A lot of people had become curious about James’ identity by then. On the 14th of February 2018, James released another mixtape that he produced in collaboration with his younger brother – a producer from New England, titled “RI 2 VA” (Rhode Island to Virginia). He gained a large amount of publicity in 2017 when he had started appearing in live radio interviews. His first live radio interview was on “Ryze Radio” in Washington, DC and the second one was at “At the Bar Radio” in Maryland. His most recent interview took place in January 2018 in Atlanta with DJ Getatcha.
Moreover, he started gaining international recognition, because, since 2017, his music has been aired on multiple internet hip-hop/rap radio stations in the United Kingdom. He released his first album called “The Boss” on the 29th of November, 2019 across multiple streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Google Play, Amazon Music, Deezer and more. On Spotify, his album has 9 tracks, namely “Intro”, “Flex”, “The Boss”, “Rockstar”, “Living Good”, “Watch Me”, “Lil Zai”, “Boriqua”, and “Minaj”. He also seems to be a family man and shows that he loves his family a lot, as he often posts selfies taken with his wife, Faith, and his son, Zaiden. He also released a Radio Edit as a single on Spotify called “Lil Zai” after his son, which is a testament to his great affection for him.
