Interview with Maral Shaker Hosseini (@maralshakerhosseini)

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I have been studying architecture since the first semesters of the university. I was interested in setting different clothes and styles. At that time, I took courses in clothing design and color principles at the Technical Complex. After my university was over, I did industrial photography of jewelry and restaurant foods for their menus. At that time, I met a few bloggers who were very popular in Iran٫they told me that you look very good and you can easily talk and present everything. Why don’t you do this? I started posting a few pictures of myself that were even taken with the phone, and I saw that it was in a short time became viral and everyone saw. In my opinion, the thing that made my photos appear so quickly and attract a lot of followers was the same academic discipline that made me have the right composition. Again, architecture was my university major, which made me see what was visually appealing, which I posted on Instagram in a way that appealed to everyone. You may be wondering, when I talk so much about the impact of architecture on life, then why didn’t I continue my career in architecture? And the main reason is that when I wanted to finish my bachelor’s degree at the university, the professors judged my final project very badly, which made me totally discouraged from architecture, and for three years now I have been graduating. I don’t want to go into architecture at all. Although I was an intern at a construction workshop before I finished my final semester at the university, I still did projects for several architectural firms at the same time as I was a student, but after the university was over. At the head of the defense, the professors treated me badly, but I didn’t want to continue the architecture at all They say that your project is a copy and give me the lowest score and don’t even allow me to defend! Let’s skip it. then I started working with brands that were popular in Iran after that. It’s been about five or six months since I started my own brand of scarves.

So if I want to be brief, What made me enter this job now was the interest that I always had as a child to set and design different clothes. I studied architecture at university, and this in itself helped a lot to the point where I could design different sets by hand sketching that I did. Also, the software skills I learned at university, such as Photoshop and Illustrator, help a lot in designing my brand, which is a scarf. And the reason for choosing this style of design is that I live in an Islamic society and I can very easily give freshness and glaze to women’s clothing in my country.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

The most interesting thing about the career path that I have chosen, and in fact the exciting part of this job, is that I can see the things I design on the women of my country, and it can make me happy and enjoy.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

My best suggestion to those who want to take a step like me is to never disappointed, to persevere, and most importantly to have a new idea to present, not to copy or imitate someone, And that you have to bring a new style into the community.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

As I mentioned in the text above, after graduating from university, I was doing industrial photography. One day, at the opening of a restaurant, I was taking a photo. I met a woman named Donya Zahedi, who was holding a fashion and clothing event at that time, and now she is one of the most successful people in the fashion industry, and also she owns one of the largest clothing stores in one of biggest shopping malls in Tehran. They introduced me to different people for photography. After I started blogging, she introduced me to different peoples and brands, and after I launched my brand in the field of scarves, The first place I sold my work was her gallery.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

After finding a large audience through my page and followers, I used this page to introduce home businesses and those who didn’t have enough money to advertise and present their work without receiving any money.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

I have never been jealous of anyone’s success and place in life, and I have always tried to increase my efforts to reach the position I love.

And I always say instead of being bad-tempered, if you have a kind and compassionate heart and help others, you will always get what you want and I believe that God helps people as much as kindness and greatness of their heart.

How can our readers follow you on social media?

I have three accounts: the main account with a high follower in which I blog

a page for my scarf collections

and a page for my photographies, that I recently reopened it.
