Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?
I began my career in nightlife by throwing teen nights in Manhattan at the ripe age of 15. After high school, I attended the University of Miami. It was in Miami that I began to truly learn and then excel in nightlife, hospitality, and entertainment. After graduating I toured the country on a tour bus as the tour manager for 2 years with few breaks. I’ve always felt nightlife and the entertainment industry were two sides of the same coin. So, after the NYC nightclub, I was managing closed, quarantine hit. It has been during this time that I’m proud to say I have launched David Kane Management LLC. DKM is more than a passion project for me. It truly is a company based on my life experience. We cater to up and coming and established artists alike, offer brand development, social media marketing, artist management, and act as both a booking agency and talent agency for our in house creative collective.
Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?
I called a friend to discuss nightclub details for Memorial Day weekend in Southampton, NY. I was offered a job as the VIP director for the weekend. By the end of night 1, I was asked to stay on all summer, and within weeks was the General Manager is one of the biggest clubs in the Hamptons. This may not seem like the most interesting story of all time, but it shows how wild my life is. Although it certainly gets crazy, I’m always calm, cool, and collected.
Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?
It’s tough not to get burnt out in the entertainment industry or nightlife/hospitality. My best piece of advice to a colleague is simple; don’t drink on the clock!
None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?
I’ve discussed several stories about my adventures in nightlife/entertainment. I’m quite sure that my previous employer (owner of the Southampton nightclub and NYC club) saw something special in me and gave me an opportunity. I took that opportunity and ran with it, and only a month ago I launched my new entertainment company David Kane Management LLC. I believe in giving credit where it is due so I have to thank my mentor and big brother Richie Hosein. He took a chance and not only did it work out, but the experience also gave me the confidence boost to become the man I am today.
How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?
When quarantine hit I knew I wanted to get involved in a charity of sorts. While building David Kane Management day in and day out, I also helped – and currently still help, to secure N95 masks for frontline workers such as EMT’s, hospital workers, and doctors. I’m extremely grateful for this opportunity and I certainly took full advantage of it and continue to work my hardest to help the real heroes of this pandemic. Relating back to entertainment; I’ve always felt that music has a spiritual aspect to it. Songs can create a mood, allow you to feel emotions, and of course, take us back to a special memory. On an average night working my goal is always the same. I aim to create an experience that won’t soon be forgotten by the ticket holder. Be it a general admission guest, or VIP client spending thousands, I want everyone in the party to walk out with a smile and a few good stories. That really keeps me going.
Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?
Someone once told me that, “life is short so do your best to always be the greatest version of yourself. It’s not about anyone’s opinion but your own.” I took it to heart immediately. I like to think that when I help an artist achieve a goal in their career that I am taking a piece of a dream and creating a reality. There is nothing like the look in the eyes of someone realizing their dream has come to fruition; it has become a reality. Every day I wake up I make sure I’m my best, and greatest version of myself. I take life one day at a time, and I make every day count.
