Interview with Chris Waiau

Thank you so much for joining us! Can you tell us a story about what brought you to this specific career path?

I always enjoyed music growing up. Much of my family was and is involved in the music industry both locally and nationally. I started playing in bands from an early age. I went on to tour and record music. I took time off from playing music and started working behind the scenes.

Can you share the most interesting story that happened to you since you started doing this?

Being able to travel and meet people has been the best part. You meet people that have reached out to you over the years and it’s great to meet them in person. I’ve gotten to work with bands that I idolized growing up and have been fortunate to call most of them friends and family now.

Which tips would you recommend to your colleagues in your industry to help them to thrive and not “burn out”?

Take things one step at a time and have a basic routine in place. Have some sort of stability helps. Always take time to relax and breathe when you get the chance throughout the day.

None of us are able to achieve success without some help along the way. Is there a particular person who you are grateful towards who helped get you to where you are? Can you share a story?

My family has been very supportive in this regard. Guys like Ra Diaz, Kanoa Kukaua, Chuck Bailey and Loren Hill have helped tremendously over the years.

How have you used your success to bring goodness to the world?

I would like to think so. I try to help anyone who reaches out. There’s room for everyone that wants to be in this industry. It’s just not the easiest one to get in to.

Do you have a favorite “Life Lesson Quote”? Can you share a story of how that was relevant to you in your life?

Be the one in control of your future.
